Move from Tableau
Export your Tableau work with unshackle, then use a coding agent and Querio CLI to rebuild and check it in Querio.
Bring a workbook your team relies on into Querio, including its calculations, charts and the business definitions behind them.
Already exported? Go straight to Move exported work to Querio.
1. Prepare access
Install unshackle and run the commands below from your analytics Git repository.
- A downloaded workbook or an account that can download the selected workbook and its published datasources.
- For API export:
TABLEAU_SERVER_URL,TABLEAU_SITE,TABLEAU_PAT_NAMEandTABLEAU_PAT_SECRET. Create the personal access token in My Account Settings. On Tableau Cloud, use your pod URL rather than Tableau Cloud Manager. - The export is limited to what the token's user can access. Check download permissions on the workbook.
2. Export one report
unshackle check tableau --prompt
unshackle inventory tableau
unshackle migrate tableau --only workbook:WORKBOOK_ID
unshackle todoReplace WORKBOOK_ID with the selected item's ID from inventory. The credential prompt saves values to a local, git-ignored .env; keep those values out of agent prompts.
Read migration/report.md for missing dependencies, extraction errors and unfinished translations before continuing.
Using exported files instead
Download the workbook and relevant published datasources. Import all the files you want to keep in the raw export:
unshackle init
unshackle import tableau "Sales.twbx" "Targets.tdsx"
unshackle build tableau
unshackle todoAccepts .twb, .twbx, .tds, .tdsx and folders. File exports omit workbook sharing, usage and Metadata API lineage. If the data exists only in a packaged extract, see the Tableau export guide for --with-data and its dependencies. A local data copy does not connect that data to Querio.
3. Review what needs adapting
- Table calculations, INCLUDE/EXCLUDE LODs, blends and multi-dimension FIXED LODs can need rewriting.
- Custom SQL may need a warehouse view or dbt model. Parameters need deliberate defaults.
- Check user filters against the intended audience, not just the person who exported.
Save the workbook's result as CSV with fixed dates, filters and parameter values. Include a filtered case and any important LOD or table calculation. Tableau API exports can also seed comparison cases with unshackle verify --init tableau.
4. Rebuild and check it in Querio
Open the repository in Claude Code, Codex or your preferred coding agent. Give it this brief:
Read https://docs.querio.ai/llms/guides/move-bi-workflow/already-unshackled.md.
Use this repository's Tableau export to rebuild REPORT_NAME in Querio.
Pay attention to Tableau LODs, table calculations, parameters and any
data that exists only in an extract.
Ask me for the target workspace, datasource and a trusted source result.Replace REPORT_NAME with the report you chose. Follow Move exported work to Querio for CLI authentication, the full agent task, verification and sharing. Check the rebuilt Querio output against your source result before using it as a replacement.
For export settings and the full list of translation gaps, see unshackle's Tableau guide.
