Explore from a board
Ask about a board result and continue selected work in a new Explore you can edit.
See a result on a board that needs a closer look? Ask about its chart or table, then use Continue in a new explore to develop your own analysis. The original Explore stays separate.
Before you start
Open the board through your Querio workspace. You need access to view and duplicate its Explore. An anonymous public link shows saved results but does not offer Ask. To run queries in your new Explore, you also need datasource permission and exactly one authorized credential. See Users, roles and groups.
1. Ask about a chart or table
In View, hover over the result and select Ask about this. Querio opens Ask with that cell tagged in your question. You can also open Ask at the top of the Explore and type @ to tag a notebook cell.
Ask something specific to the result, for example:
Which inputs and filters produce this total? Explain the calculation
without changing the source notebook.Press Enter or select Send, then wait for the reply. Check the explanation against the result's code and inputs before using it. View can run existing cells, but your question cannot change the source notebook. This View conversation belongs to your live session; it is not saved to the source's editing conversation.
2. Continue in a new Explore
With at least one cell tagged, the Ask panel shows Continue in a new explore. Its count includes cells tagged in earlier sent questions as well as your current draft. Check the count if you have asked about several results.
Send any draft question you want to keep, and wait for the reply and cell execution to finish. A cell tagged in an unsent draft is selected for the copy, but the draft text is not copied.
Select Continue in a new explore. It opens a new Explore in Edit with its own URL and a title ending in (copy). You can now change its notebook and continue the conversation without editing the source.
3. Understand what carries over
The new notebook contains the tagged cells and the cells they depend on, even if some were not visible on the board. For example, tagging a chart that uses a calculated total from a query copies the chart, calculation and query. An unrelated chart stays in the source. The card counts tagged cells, so the new notebook may contain more cells than that count.
The included cells keep their source, configuration, layout and available outputs. Your sent View conversation comes with them. The source's editing conversation does not. See Duplicate and continue for the full copy contract.
Open Notebook in the new Explore and check its cells and conversation. The copy has not run the cells again; its outputs may be from an earlier run. Check the inputs, code and new execution results before relying on a changed analysis. Follow Check and correct an answer if a result looks wrong.
4. Develop and share the new work
Ask a follow-up in the new editing conversation or edit the notebook cells. Check the revised output, then return to the new Explore from Explores or its URL when you need it. Changes in this Explore do not sync back to the source.
You are the new Explore's creator and receive Full access. Continuation does not copy the source's sharing list or apply the workspace's default sharing. Other effective access grants may still apply. When the result is ready for a colleague, share the new Explore and check their access separately. Sharing the Explore does not grant query access to its datasource.
If you see Disconnected for inactivity, select Reconnect, then inspect the restored notebook before continuing. See Execution and sessions.
To interrupt running work in Edit, use Stop for a notebook cell or Stop (Esc) in chat. Completed changes can remain, and remote warehouse jobs may continue. Check the interruption boundary before retrying.
To keep working in the original Explore instead, follow Refine the same analysis.
If you cannot continue
| Problem | Next action |
|---|---|
| Ask is unavailable | Open the board through your workspace, not an anonymous public link, and check your access with its owner. |
| No continuation card | Tag a notebook cell. An untagged question does not select anything to copy. |
| Card is disabled | Wait for the reply and live execution to finish. |
| Live session expired | Reopen the source Explore and tag the result again. Earlier View chat may be unavailable. |
| Continuation fails | Check that the tagged cells still exist and ask an editor to fix notebook syntax errors if needed. If access is denied, ask an administrator to check duplication permission. |
| You remain in View | Check Explores for the new copy before retrying. If none appears, report the failed action. |
